Privacy Policy
Who we are
This website is operated by Abdullah Al-Smadi & Partners (Smadi Law Firm), Seqeleyah Street, Dar Al-Salam Center, Al Rabieh, Amman 11118, Jordan. You can reach us at info@smadilawfirm.com. Under Jordan's Personal Data Protection Law No. (24) of 2023, the firm is the “Controller” of the personal data described in this policy: the party that holds it in its custody.
Information you provide to us
When you use our consultation request form, we collect your full name, the matter category you select, the method of contact you prefer (email, phone, or WhatsApp) together with the address or number you give us for it, and, optionally, a brief note on the type of assistance you need. The form is intended for initial contact only, and the note field is capped at 500 characters. We ask you not to include confidential, sensitive, medical, financial, criminal-record, or detailed case information in it; if you need to discuss those matters, our office will contact you directly. A visitor could still choose to enter such information despite that request, in which case we handle it under the same confidentiality obligations that apply to all client communications. If you email us directly, we receive whatever you send. Please do not send confidential documents or urgent filing details through the form itself; the form is an enquiry channel, not a secure document transfer.
Information collected when you use the website
Our hosting provider, Vercel, keeps standard request logs (such as IP address, browser, and timestamp) for security and reliability, as any web host does. If you accept analytics cookies, described below, this site also collects limited information about how pages are used. On our homepage, this site separately displays a live feed of our Google reviews through a third-party widget (Elfsight). Loading that feed involves a request to Elfsight's servers and may set a cookie of its own on your device; it is independent of the analytics choice described below and is not part of the consent controls that gate our analytics.
How we use this information
We use what you submit to respond to your enquiry and, if you engage us, to provide legal services. Where analytics is accepted, we use it in aggregate to understand which pages are useful so we can improve the site. We do not use your information for marketing to third parties, and we do not sell it.
Contact and consultation form
The consultation form on this site is delivered through Web3Forms, a third-party form-processing service: your submission is sent by Web3Forms directly to our office inbox, and Web3Forms also retains a copy on its own systems for a limited period under its own privacy policy, linked above. Submitting this form does not, by itself, create an attorney-client relationship; that relationship is formed only upon our written confirmation. To prevent repeated automated submissions, your browser stores a small technical marker on your device recording when you last submitted the form. That marker stays on your device only; it is never sent to us or to any third party.
Analytics and cookies
This site loads Google Tag Manager, a container that manages the measurement tags we choose to run. Tag Manager does not itself set cookies or collect information about you. Through it we run two analytics tools, Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity; we do not run advertising pixels, remarketing tags, or social-media trackers.
Analytics runs only if you accept it. When you first arrive, analytics is switched off. We ask for your choice in a banner at the bottom of the page, and until you accept, neither Google Analytics nor Microsoft Clarity is activated: no analytics cookie is written to your browser and no information about your visit is sent to Google or Microsoft. If you decline, both stay switched off and nothing is sent; we do not fall back to a cookieless or modelled form of tracking.
If, and only if, you accept, Google Analytics stores cookies in your browser (named _ga and _ga_*) containing a randomly generated identifier. That identifier lets us distinguish one visit from another and recognise a returning browser. It is not linked to your name, email address, or anything you send us through the consultation form.
Through those cookies, Google Analytics records:
- the pages you view on this site, the order you view them in, and roughly how long you spend on each;
- how you arrived, for example a search engine, a link from another website, or a direct visit;
- your approximate location at city and country level: your IP address is used momentarily to derive this and is not stored by Google Analytics;
- technical details of your device: browser, operating system, device type, screen size, and language.
We use this only to understand which parts of the site are actually useful, for example which practice areas are read most, so we can improve the site's structure and content. We do not use analytics data for advertising, remarketing, or profiling, and we do not attempt to identify individual visitors from it. This data is processed by Google on our behalf, and Google may store and process it on servers outside Jordan, including in the United States. Google's own handling of the data is described in its privacy policy. Event-level analytics data is automatically deleted after a limited retention period set in our Google Analytics account.
We also use Microsoft Clarity, a website usability tool, under the same consent choice as Google Analytics. Clarity only activates if you accept analytics; if you decline, it does not load, and no session recording or analytics collection through it takes place. Where active, Clarity helps us understand how visitors interact with the site, including clicks, scrolling, navigation patterns, aggregate heatmaps, and, where applicable, recordings of on-page session activity. We use this only to improve the site's usability and experience. In our implementation, Clarity does not receive your name, email address, phone number, WhatsApp number, or the contents of anything you submit through the consultation form; those fields are not sent to it. This data is processed by Microsoft, whose handling of it is described in its privacy statement.
Cookie choices and consent
Your choice to accept or decline analytics is remembered in a small cookie on your device (smadi_consent), so that we do not ask again on every visit. That cookie lasts up to ten years, or until you clear your browser's cookies or change your choice, whichever comes first. It is a preference cookie, separate from the analytics cookies described above, and it does not itself track your browsing.
Your controls. You can change your mind at any time. Cookie Settings in the footer of any page reopens the banner, letting you withdraw consent as easily as you gave it. If you had previously accepted, withdrawing reloads the page so that analytics is removed from your current session entirely rather than merely switched off; it takes effect immediately and stops any further collection. Beyond that, every major browser lets you block or delete cookies through its settings, and Google publishes a Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on that stops Google Analytics on every site you visit. Declining or blocking analytics cookies does not limit your use of this site in any way: every page, and the consultation form, works exactly the same without them.
Service providers and international processing
We share information only with the service providers necessary to run this site: Web3Forms for form delivery, Vercel for hosting, Elfsight for the reviews widget, and, only if you accept analytics, Google and Microsoft. We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing. We may also disclose information where required by law or a valid court order.
Some of these providers operate infrastructure outside Jordan, including in the United States and the European Union, so information may be processed there in the course of providing their services to us. Jordan's Personal Data Protection Law restricts transferring personal data outside the country unless the recipient provides an adequate level of protection or a specific exception under the law applies; we select providers on that basis and rely on their published security and data-handling commitments.
Data retention
We keep consultation enquiries for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to them and, where a formal engagement follows, for as long as our professional and legal record-keeping obligations require. Web3Forms separately retains a copy of submitted messages on its own systems under its own retention schedule, described in the privacy policy linked above. Analytics data, where you have accepted it, is retained by Google Analytics for a limited period set in our account before it is automatically deleted. Microsoft Clarity keeps session recordings for 30 days, and click and heatmap data, along with any labeled or favorited sessions, for up to 9 months. The smadi_consent preference cookie lasts up to ten years, as described above. Vercel keeps standard hosting logs for a limited operational and security period.
Security
We serve this site over HTTPS, restrict what browsers are permitted to load through a content security policy, and apply standard technical safeguards to protect the information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps appropriate to the nature of the information involved.
Your rights
Under Jordan's Personal Data Protection Law, you have the right to know about and access the personal data we hold about you, to withdraw any consent you have given (including your analytics choice, at any time, without affecting anything already done on the basis of that consent), to have your data corrected, amended, or updated, to limit our processing of it to a specific scope, to have it erased or hidden, to object to processing or profiling that is unnecessary, excessive, discriminatory, or otherwise unlawful, to have a copy of your data transferred to another controller, and to be notified if a security breach affects your personal data. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or in applicable law. The version published on this page is always the current one.
